On Electro-weak Mixing Derived from Radiative Corrections and the Necessity of the Higgs Mechanism

چکیده

Starting from the unmixed Lagrangian, the electro-weak radiative corrections are recomputed using symmetrical generalised functions. All gauge bosons acquire an indeterminate mass. Electro-weak mixing is obtained by diagonalization of the mass matrix. The W/Z mass ratio follows automatically. The Higgs mechanism is not needed to generate the vector boson masses. A mass sum rule is postulated to obtain a zero photon mass. The radiative corrections are different, and (provisionally) in agreement with experiment, when the no longer needed Higgs terms are omitted.

The Role of a Standard Model Decoupling

We argue that a suitable Standard Model decoupling limit is generically the necessary ingredient which makes scenarios of electro-weak symmetry breaking viable. Additional requirements are only that the mass predictions of a given model (e.g. predictions or theoretical limits on the Higgs or top mass) are consistent with existing data. It is discussed how such a Standard Model limit can be real...

Constraints from Global Symmetries on Radiative Corrections to the Higgs Sector

We discuss the implications of global symmetries on the radiative corrections to the Higgs sector. We focus on two examples: the charged Higgs mass in the minimal supersymmetric model and the Higgs couplings to vector boson pairs. In the first case, we find that in the absence of squark mixing a global SU(2)×SU(2) symmetry protects the charged Higgs mass from corrections of O(g2m4t/m 2 W ). In ...

Renormalization-group-improved Higgs sector of the minimal supersymmetric model.

In the minimal supersymmetric model (MSSM) all Higgs self-coupling parameters are related to gauge couplings at tree-level. Leading-logarithmic radiative corrections to these quantities can be summed using renormalization group techniques. By this procedure we obtain complete leading-log radiative corrections to the Higgs masses, the CP-even Higgs mixing angle, and trilinear Higgs couplings. Ad...

Generalized screening theorem for Higgs decay processes in the two - doublet model

The radiative corrections to the decay processes of the neutral (CP -even) Higgs boson (H) into a longitudinal gauge boson pair, i.e., H → ZLZL and H → W L W− L are analyzed in the two-Higgs doublet model by assuming that all of the Higgs boson masses are much greater than the W and Z bosons’. These calculations are motivated to see if one could see potentially large virtual effects to these de...

We consider radiative corrections to the masses of the Higgs bosons in a minimal supersymmetric model that contains an additional non-anomalous U(1) gauge symmetry. With some fine tuning of the U(1) charges of the Higgs fields, it is possible to suppress the Z–Z ′ mixing. We use this fact, along with the lower bound on the lightest Higgs mass after LEPII era, as a criterion to restrict the set ...
